Ah, January. A fresh start. A clean slate. A time to embrace my yoga journey with grace and ease … except I injured myself. Twice. On a boat. Because apparently, my body had other plans.
Needless to say, my flow was more flop this month. My movement was mostly limited to hobbling to massage appointments (six of them – ouch, in every sense), trying to convince my muscles to please cooperate. Spoiler: they did not.
That said, I did still spend plenty of time on the boat (because clearly, I never learn) and did a lot of swimming – which, surprisingly, really helped my back. Floating around in the water turned out to be the best therapy, and I have the photos to prove it!

Pose progress: a slow, unsteady yoga journey
I had big plans for visible progress this month. Instead, I have … well, photos (such as they are).
Progress? Debatable.
But part of any yoga journey is consistency, right? So, even if I’m not seeing major changes yet, I know that showing up – injuries and all – is still a win.
Milestones, victories & lessons
Despite the setbacks, I have learned a few things along the way:
- Moving gently can still have a big impact. Less is sometimes more.
- I am terrible at relaxing. Seriously. It’s almost a skill at this point.
- My brain has been running a full-blown circus lately. Monkey mind? More like an entire primate sanctuary throwing a rave.

Challenges: the struggle of staying consistent
Mornings? A battle. Evenings? A lost cause. Work? Absolutely relentless. My intention is to stretch every night, but by the time I remember, I’m already half-asleep.
And meditation? Ha. Let’s just say I meant to meditate, but instead, my brain used that time to compose grocery lists, relive my most awkward moments, and spiral about whether my dog secretly judges me.
(I’m convinced she does.)
The stretch ahead: keeping my yoga journey moving in February
Work will still be a juggle, but I’m not giving up. I’m setting a nightly reminder to stretch, queuing up my FitOn videos, and – most importantly – reminding myself that five minutes is still progress. My yoga journey doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing.
Final thoughts: small steps still count
My mantra for February? Bare minimum is still something. My yoga journey doesn’t require hour-long sessions to be effective. Five to ten minutes is enough.
And while we’re at it, if anyone has tips on taking better yoga photos (that don’t look like I’ve been caught mid-fall), let me know! Gotta wipe that weird look off my face. Here’s to slow progress, gentle movement, and maybe – just maybe – learning to breathe.
