If this is your first visit, welcome.

None of us reaches midlife with a neat little story tied up in a bow.

We outgrow relationships. We question old roles. We get tired in ways we never expected.

We start asking different questions.

This is what Life in Rough Draft is about. Not fixing yourself.

Just making sense of the draft you’re living now.

The people in our lives change.
So do we.
Explore friendship, family, marriage, boundaries and connection.

Learning to honour our limits without carrying guilt
along for the ride.

The stories we tell ourselves shape how we experience midlife.
Some are worth questioning.

Who are you when life starts asking different questions?

Life In Rough Draft writer Em sits on a chair, holding a mug with an E on it. She is side-on, but looking at the camera, leaning back in her chair. She has short blonde hair and blue glasses. She is smiling.

A little about me

Hi, I’m Em.

I live in Tasmania with my husband of more than 20 years, our adult son, and a delightfully odd greyhound who keeps life interesting.

I started Life in Rough Draft because I got tired of waiting to feel like I finally had adulthood figured out.

Instead, I realised most of us are quietly editing our lives as we go … rethinking relationships, redefining success, learning our limits, discovering new parts of ourselves.

So I stopped waiting for the final draft.

This is where I explore the rough one.
